Description
Emerson appears to be a humanoid male in his mid twenties, standing approximately 174 cm tall. He wears robes that are primarily monochromatic, with red and gold accents. A black and gold face-mask covers his mouth and nose. Physically, he has pale skin, dark blue clock-shaped irises (which appear to function like actual clocks and can tell time), and black hair longer than shoulder-length. His physical body appears to be made not of biological matter, but instead of a mixture of clockwork gears, pistons, and condensed chrono-energy wearing a metal shell painted to mimic skin, with blue accents around the joints. A pocket watch made of filigree is embedded within his hip, which he can eject when necessary. He apparently possesses a pair of wings, according to wanderer testimonies and corroborated by Emerson himself. However, these wings have not yet been visually documented.
Abilities
In situations of temporal disturbance, Emerson's pocket watch appears to sustain damage, with the severity of the damage correlating directly to the severity of the disturbance. He can embed this watch into someone's body, with the connection keeping them tethered to the base timeline and slowing the damage done to surrounding timelines. If multiple people are affected, he embeds the watch into whoever is most affected by the disturbance or whoever caused it. As he fixes the pocket watch, the timeline will start to stabilize, letting him pull the affected individual(s) out of the temporal disturbance. After the removal of Emerson and the affected individual(s) from temporal disturbance, that part of the timeline resumes its deterioration once more unless/until repaired.
Emerson's eyes are also capable of detecting changes within the timeline and guiding him to it.
As previously mentioned, Emerson is reportedly capable of manifesting glowing blue wings made of chrono-energy. He only uses these when absolutely necessary, and has refused to show researchers on account of it being "very exhausting and rather physically taxing".
He also appears to be unaffected by regular temporal anomalies, and is capable of traversing broken sections of time with little to no issue. Additionally, he has much faster reflexes compared to a normal human.
Personality
Emerson's behavior is generally very oriented towards his work, with most sightings of him occurring while he is on active patrol. He tends to be anxious when not actively on patrol or helping save others, and has a hard time slowing down or relaxing. Outside of his job he is always trying to help others even if it is not asked or wanted, and can be quite pushy when it comes to trying to help. He tends to express a much more formal and stern attitude when in the process of saving someone, in contrast to his much more nonchalant, friendly, and overall casual demeanor when interacting with others outside of job. He shows an outer lack of negative emotions, but still seems fully capable of feeling a full range of emotions. He has expressed a dislike of showing his negative emotions due to not wanting others to lose trust in him or his abilities.
Emerson shows a willingness to talk to others about his past, most of which being while he was still fully human. He prefers to not dwell on the more negative events of his past. Despite a willingness to discuss his past and an average human memory retention, there is one section of his life that changes each time he discusses it, even when asked moments apart. According to him, he does not fully remember why this is the case.
It can be inferred that he has a strong connection to "the Gearmaker", displaying a strong desire to be around this individual, viewing aem as a mentor and idolizing aem to a strong degree.
Interview
Time: 15:20
Date: 15th of August
Interviewer: Dr. Sarah Klait
Interviewee: Emerson Lockhart
Status: The interview was conducted after Emerson helped save an MEG field team from a temporal paradox. He expressed hesitation at the prospect of an interview, but would allow it provided that the time taken did not exceed ten minutes. No coercive measures were used.
BEGIN LOG
(Emerson is seated on a metal chair across from Dr. Klait. He appears unharmed. The clocks in his irises show the same time as the clock in the interview room.)
Dr. Klait: And we're recording. Firstly, I would like to thank you for your help saving the MEG field team.
Emerson: Thank you! But it's really not a big deal, I do things like this all the time. Besides I don't think thanking me is a necessary for this interview.
Dr. Klait: I understand you're anxious to get back, but you did say you would participate in the interview.
(Emerson begrudgingly nods.)
Dr. Klait: When you say "things like this" what do you mean?
Emerson: Saving people! It's like, the whole reason I'm here! I find people trapped or harmed by temporal anomalies, and stabilize it enough to get them out of there.
Dr. Klait: I see, one of the MEG operatives reported that you attached a clock to him. What is that about?
(Emerson's presses something on his hip and holds a pocket watch in his hand, connected to him via a gold chain.)
Emerson: They're referring to this! Usually it works perfectly, but when it enters a temporal anomaly it breaks. I embed it in whoever is most affected or caused the disturbance, and it sort of anchors them and the timeline to me while I fix it. Don't worry it's completely painless and won't cause any damage.
Dr. Klait: Alright, we have also gotten multiple reports of you appearing to others with wings, can I ask about those?
Emerson: Oh! Yeah, they only appear when absolutely necessary, it's completely involuntary. Besides, even if I could control when they appear I don't like doing it, it takes the chrono-energy from my body, so using them is very exhausting and rather physically taxing.
(Emerson taps his fingers against the table impatiently, his gaze occasionally falling on the exit door. Dr. Klait does not make note of this.)
Dr. Klait: You're made of chrono-energy?
Emerson: That is correct! Well, partially, the rest of me is just made of metal, clockwork to be precise. The chrono-energy just keeps me going.
Dr. Klait: Regarding your physical state, were you created by someone or something?
Emerson: I mean, kind of, I know I was a human before…
(Emerson gestures to his clockwork body.)
Emerson: ..all of this.
Dr. Klait: You where a human beforehand? What happened?
Emerson: Well I was in an integration point, trying to save someone who had gotten stuck there. I must have stepped somewhere I shouldn't have because all I could feel was this searing pain then… it just sort of… hmm…
(Emerson looks down at the table, his movements stilling, his expression contorted into one of deep thought and confusion.)
Dr. Klait: Do you remember what happened after that?
Emerson: I-I mean I do… it's just… I don't at the same time. It's like I'm viewing a bunch of memories all at once that aren't mine, but they also are, they did happen to me! I think…
(Emerson pauses, still staring at the table)
Emerson: The Gearmaker did say that ae had to sort of, put me together, but I don't remember any of that. I'm sorry I couldn't tell you more.
Dr. Klait: It's alright, now I know you want to get going, so my final question, about "the Gearmaker", could you tell me about your relation with aem?
(Emerson visibly perks up at this.)
Emerson: Oh! The Gearmaker! Ae's sort of like a mentor to me! Taught me anything I hadn't learned myself, trained me, all that good stuff! Ae's great, I wouldn't be where I am now if it weren't for aem! I probably wouldn't even be here!
Dr. Klait: You seem to view aem rather highly.
Emerson: I think anyone would if they were in my shoes.
Emerson: You did say this was the last question right?
(Emerson is already beginning to get out of his seat and head to the door.)
Dr. Klait: Correct, we can conclude this interview.
Emerson: Great! Cause I've spent way too long here, I really should get going!
Dr. Klait: Alright then, that concludes this interview, thank you for your cooperation.
