Description

Cygnus (ˈkyɡ.nus) is a deeply revered goddess in our pantheon, with the strongest and longest-standing following even to this day — likely as a result of her unwavering benevolence and kindness.

Appearance in Texts

Cygnus features in several ancient myths — most notably, "The Book Of The Moon - Verse 1" and "The Scroll of Azkhari". Unfortunately, most of the original scriptures relating to her are forever lost, and those which remain are contradictory, shrouding her true past in mystery. What is known for certain, however, is that Cygnus played a pivotal role amongst The Pantheon in shaping Human culture within The Backrooms.

Physical Description

Cygnus' form was abstract and fluid, varying between myths. Her ancient depictions were most commonly associated with the imagery of birds, the moon, stars, blue roses, and books.

Worship

Beyond the aforementioned legends, there are unfortunately few surviving records of Cygnus from the Lost era, even including the rituals and offerings made in her honor. This scarcity of information primarily results from The Iron Fist burning whatever religious scriptures they could find; especially those related to Cygnus, in spite against her spheres of influence.

Symbols

There are numerous symbols associated with Cygnus, the most prominent of which detailed below:

  • The Book — Education, Knowledge
  • The Blue Rose — Royalty, Rarity, Mystery
  • The Sapphire — Wisdom, Virtue, Blessings
  • The Moon and Stars — Guidance, Aspiration, Change

Relationships with Others

Humans

Cygnus was one of the most beloved Goddesses, always treating mortals fairly and justly. However, following the massacre and the uprising, even Cygnus would fall out of favor with many worshipers. As a result, Cygnus withdrew from public scrutiny following the Great Collapse, even cutting contact with most other remaining members of the former pantheon. She completely isolated herself within her own realm, where she remains to this day.

Gods

Cygnus shared rather close bond with the other deities of the pantheon, regarding them as siblings.

Augustus

Augustus and Cygnus were said to have worked together in the creating several aspects of The Backrooms.

Solaris, The Starmother

Cygnus was one of the first to help Solaris come out of her shell, giving her a gentle push to socialize and make her presence known among the Gods. As such, Solaris felt safe to confide in Cygnus when she needed support. It is said that they worked together in mapping cosmology and placing stars amongst the heavens.

The Allseer

Cygnus and The Allseer fondly regarded each other, though they supposedly had several disagreements. Ultimately, they concluded that their minds were better used for the betterment of others, and so they agreed to disagree.

Gudang

Cygnus and Gudang were rather close, with the former grieving the latter's death.

Gatekeeper

Gatekeeper is said to have often visited Cygnus to read books and engage in thought-provoking discussions with her at length. However, ancient records indicate an estrangement between them prior to his self-isolation.

Modern Day

Cygnus exists in a far more humble and modest form, as Blanche Von Haderach. She presents herself in the persona of a simple librarian, tending to the Cygnus Archive. It seems that she prefers to leave her past as a goddess behind, as she wishes to be seen as equal amongst mortal beings.

Seems your curiosity does truly rival mine… very well, then. I'll give you a little help.
Do yourself a favor, dear reader, get yourself a comfortable seat and a warm cup of tea.
Let us start from the very beginning, shall we?

Once upon a time… there was me.
