Entity 20, more commonly known as "The Thing in Level 7" (or simply "The Thing"), is a massive predatory fish-like entity around 35 meters long. It stands as one of the largest and most dangerous natural predators of the Backrooms.

The Thing makes its territory in the abyssal regions of Level 7, though veteran explorers describe a time in which it stalked its entire ocean. Within its domain, it is only rivaled by the aptly-named "Tiny".

psychologyBehaviors

The Thing lives in the lower half of Level 7. It is omnivorous, and seems to have killed most other life in the ocean. It has poor eyesight, but can easily detect movements in the water to find out where potential prey is. When The Thing is near, it will give you a temporary fear of the ocean and sea creatures if you don't already have one, making its attacks more effective. It makes loud roars around prey to make them very weak and slow, and just recordings of the roar can have this effect. The Thing tries to prevent any information about it from spreading, and will usually attack anyone who knows the most about it before anything else. There have been reports of it actively trying to hunt a specific person because of how much they knew. How The Thing knows how much information a person knows about it is unknown.

scienceBiology

The Thing in Level 7 shares attributes with several aquatic lifeforms from The Frontrooms, such as the angler fish and the bathysaurus ferox. It has many spikes coming out of it, especially on its tail. It has a yellow light hanging from its head, used to lure prey. It has large teeth, but most of the time it won't have to use them, since it is big enough to swallow a human being with ease.

Due to its poor eyesight and body mass, it is slower than its surface-dwelling counterpart. However, its massive jaws contain several barbed teeth capable of rending an unlucky explorer in half with ease. The Thing is additionally capable of dislocating its jaw in a quick, forward motion allowing it to snap up prey at a slight range.

searchDiscovery

The Thing is said to be responsible for the mass amount of skeleton bones on the ocean floor of Level 7, which have been identified as belonging to humans and entities alike.

The Thing in Level 7 has seemingly existed as long as the ocean itself. The Lost have referred to the Thing in Level 7 as "The Leviathan" in their ancient myths.

Over time, there have been several unconfirmed sightings of the Thing in Level 7 (or a similar creature) in other aquatic levels. This lends to several possible theories. One is that the Thing is capable of exiting Level 7 and terrorizing other aquatic levels. Another theory is that the Thing may in fact be one member of an entire species, and other members of this species may in fact reside in other aquatic levels.

historySurvival Guide

Any explorer brave enough to traverse Level 7 at such depths is advised to keep as much distance as possible. The Thing in Level 7 is slow and has extremely limited vision, but is capable of detecting body heat and movement at relatively high distances. If the Thing is nearby, however, it is important to keep in mind that its dark environment has left its eyes extremely sensitive to light. carrying a bright flashlight should be enough to stun the creature for long enough to escape.
