INCIDENT REPORT: THE EXECUTION AND RESURRECTION OF ATLAS

Date: Evening of the Forty-third Day of Autumn, Second Year of Chi.
Location: Ground 94

Our patron and the first Eyes of Argos ventured into Ground 94, seeking an end to Atlas’ tyrannical reign. It quickly became apparent that peace would not be an option, as they were soon besieged by an army of Animated Ones.

Eventually, Argos would directly confront Atlas, and — with assistance from some of the watchers — ultimately slew him with his spear.

Dethroned

"Dethroned"; a stained glass window in The Hall of Murals, depicting the moment in which Argos slew Atlas.

Due to concerns that Atlas’ vast power would grant him a quick transformation into a Wraith, his remains were transported to The Profane Burial Site even while it was still under construction. Their fears would indeed come to pass, as from Atlas' corpse spawned a Wraith known as The Royal Remnant.

The Royal Remnant was noteworthy for retaining most of Atlas' original faculties, seeming to have lost little of it in his twisted metamorphosis.

The Royal Remnant is the only Wraith to have ever escaped the confines of The Profane Burial Site. Aided by the leftovers of his army, and using trickery and deception during a time of crisis, he managed to cowardly evade the few wardens that had been stationed to guard the site at the time.

Exploiting his circumstances and the lack of preparation among the initial wardens of The Monastery, the Royal Remnant ordered his forces to attack it, facilitating his escape.

In the aftermath of the ensuing chaos, Atlas’ physical remains could not be located. The leading theory is that they were likely destroyed or stolen, but what ultimately became of them is unknown.

As of this writing, another expedition into Ground 94 to confront the Royal Remnant is pending. Such efforts may prove more difficult than previously anticipated, as the Royal Remnant has recently begun to display a high level of hostility towards beings such as our patron. He has even gone so far as to post a sign reading the following:

NightSign

It is likely intended to ward off “gods” and those associated with them, given the Remnant’s claims to supposedly be “the highest god of all”.

Addendum:
As recent advances into Ground 94 can confirm, the reign of the Royal Remnant, known by the Labyrinth’s wider population simply as The Animated King, continues undisturbed. Despite all efforts to destabilize it from outside, The Remnant’s army of “Animations” does nothing but grow, as does the amount of sin the place exudes. It seems, to great despair, that the only option left is direct confrontation.

I know your time is scarce, so I must tell you that this missive's purpose is not to confirm truths that deep down we had already accepted. I reach to you, master, because the watchers you put in my trust have discovered a truth even more undesirable. We are certain that, as the rumors foretold, the Wraith is indeed capable of morphing its form to fit the deepest fears of those he faces. Though most probably attribute this capability to his innate power, we know this is not the case.

The Royal Remnant has somehow obtained the ability to fully control the fluidity granted to his body due to his status as Wraith, and I fear this is only the beginning. Who knows what else he might have already discovered about the true power of an existence without bounds to the living world. If this knowledge were to be shared to other intelligent Wraiths
