M.E.G. Pioneer and Former Member Found Dead on Level 853

Olivia Bellerose, one of the earliest members of the Major Explorer Group, has been found dead in Level 853 by another M.E.G. operative. Although she left her position as Base Alpha researcher two years ago after the death of her partner, Tournesol, her body will nonetheless be buried similarly to other major M.E.G. pioneers, according to Overseer Justin Rivers, who did not give any additional information for the moment.

These past few years haven't been forgiving to the Major Explorer Group. Since the loss of the senior archivist Aelita River, it seems that every year since then has seen the death of yet another of their prominent members. 202X is now no different, as the former botanical researcher and operative Olivia Bellerose's corpse has been found on Level 853 by an operative of Compass Point who asked to remain anonymous.

Olivia Bellerose had been a part of the M.E.G. from its very creation, putting her botanical skills to good use by working alongside Supervisor Jana Cotyledon on many breakthroughs that proved vital to the M.E.G. as it grew. Ever since The Nomadic Coalition fused into what became the Major Explorer group in 2012, she has manifested the will to protect wanderers by exploring and researching this anomalous world. Her iron will notably led to the creation of Roserum, who is now commonly used to prevent Crawler contamination and proliferation.

Her time in the M.E.G. came to an end in 2018, however, when her partner, Tournesol, a former entity researcher of Base Alpha, died during an expedition. Although this event is known by the general public as the end of the M.E.G. Golden Era, it also affected Olivia, who left the group she considered to be too negligent, unable to help even its workers.

After taking an interest in Level 5 for a few months, where she wrote the now-famous Terror Hotel Survival Guide, she wandered deeper into the Backrooms, with the goal to save as many helpless wanderers as possible. Information about her feats is scarce, due to her refusing to discuss with the M.E.G. during most interactions, but her name quickly became a symbol of hope inside backborn communities living away from the Main 12.

Level 853 proved to be her last sacrifice, however. While her cause of death hasn't been given to the public as of yet, the M.E.G. has confirmed that they retrieved her body back to Base Alpha, where she will be buried as a M.E.G. member and hero. "She was more than a coworker to us. Despite her having left us two years ago, this event marks the second death of someone we valued so deeply." announced Overseer Justin Rivers during his last appearance.

With yet another pioneer of the M.E.G. gone, many M.E.G. workers have publicly expressed concern over the group's future and its capacity to move on from the loss of so many of their veterans. "The Oversight Council hasn't spoken since then, but it's clear the members are in distress. How many of their friends can they afford to lose before the whole group splinters again?" questions Ale Venrick, the Compass Point team captain.

The Oversight Council hasn't officially responded to the events as of now, and Overseer Justin Rivers has also denied further explanation

Welcome to this week's temporary museum exposition,

The Hive Across Ages

Chimerae

Mosaic in Hoofstad, like many other forms of art, was deeply rooted in religion, and the Chimerae were no exception.

These creatures, like many others in the Backrooms, were the result of human legends taken form through what we now know to be Liminalization. These creations, whether friendly or aggressive, were believed to be created in Paradeos, a threshold between Nihil (the mind) and Daedos (the body). Said location is represented on the first piece of the aisle, depicting a man growing from the roots of the level.

The second and third pieces represent said entities1, whose portraits were often kept in houses. These representations of physical manifestations of Paradeos were believed to help strengthen the link between the soul and the body of those living inside. Whether feared or loved, these creatures all originated from their own beliefs, taking form in unusual yet fascinating ways.

The last piece is believed to represent the hive mind of Paradeos, named Ohphúō2, believed to be the consciousness of Paradeos — known more popularly as Protastheia, the Goddess of Agriculture and Desire.

Did you really make this whole exposition to stop me from going there?

That one was already planned, but I figured you'd get the message either way.

Leo, I get you're worried for me, but I made my choice. It's been the two worst weeks in my life. I need to talk to her. I need to find a way! Anything!

And I got you the book you requested, Justin. But just because I can't stop you from going there doesn't mean I won't try.

They're legends. Even if it was real, I've dealt with far worse. I'll be fine, trust me.

Justin, don't you remember who you're talking to? I was there, Justin. I was there when Hoofstad fell. I was there when Paradeos became Huvvat. And, most importantly, I was there to witness it slowly engrain itself within humanity's culture.

I get that you know the subject very well, but… you never actually went there. Being old doesn't mean you understand everything. You said it yourself in the exhibition, this whole thing is a big mystery even to this day.

You didn't either. Yet as soon as you Meggies found a path to the Cave System, the first thing you did was blocking its access, much like others have before. Are you trying to tell me you aren't aware of the dangers there?

I made my decision, Leo. The information may be limited, but I need to try. I need to find a way to contact her from the Grave.

I guess there really is nothing I can say to stop you… Fine. You win. Take the book, do your ritual thing, and come back in one piece, okay? We need you here, and I know very well what grief can do to a human who lost everything.

… Thanks Leo. I promise I won't fuck up anything. I'll be back in the Museum as soon as I'm done.
