Thank you Chaii and Mickey for helping me with coding, thank you LunaTic for providing helpful crit, and thank you for reading. Also, P.S: The music is supposed to be quiet.
| Object 18: The Memoriter |
| Class: Unknown | In possession of M.E.G. Operative Bell. | Limited applications outside of playing back music. |

Description:
Photograph of the Memoriter.
Object 18 is a worn, brass-horned phonograph with a detailed wooden body that weighs around 55 pounds. The item is believed to originate from the 1900s, but since Object 18 lacks any identifiable labels, an exact date or manufacturer cannot be confirmed. When questioned about Object 18’s origins, Agent Bell that she had happened upon Object 18 as she was traversing through Level 5 sometime before she had become a member of the M.E.G.
Properties:
Object 18’s anomalous properties manifest when a sentient being comes within roughly 20 meters of it. If that being thinks of a song upon entering the defined radius, their conceived tune will begin playing on said object regardless if the phonograph has already been playing or not; the quality of this song depends on one's memory of it and distance from the object. While exposure to Object 18's properties result in strange dreams related to the current song, it has been designated a relatively "safe" item that still warrants caution around. As a result of no extreme side effects being identified by researchers during testing, Agent Bell’s request to keep Object 18 in her possession was granted.
“I kept it with me because it reminded me of what I had lost — and it kept me grounded in an otherwise unfamiliar, alien environment.” Agent Bell claimed in an interview conducted with the M.E.G during testing of Object 18. Originally, this “grounding” sensation was attributed to an as-of-yet unidentified property of the item. However, after an extensive testing period, researchers have since concluded that the sensation of “grounding” that Agent Bell described was genuine.
Testing:
Below are the summarized results of the tests conducted over the initial trial period:
- The closer a subject is to Object 18 while it's active, the stronger its abilities become with the music becoming clearer and the less time required to invoke strange dreams.
- The strange dreams recalled by individuals after they listen to Object 18 involve instances related to when they could last recall the song played most vividly.
- If multiple individuals stand within range of Object 18, the item will play the song remembered the most by the group overall rather than focusing on a single individual.
- If a recording device is present within the item's radius, the Object will stall for as long as the apparatus is present. The reason for this behavior is unknown.
- The record that came originally with Object 18 can be replaced, but otherwise, no changes in the item’s function were observed.
- When no sentient lifeforms or electronics capable of recording audio are within radius of Object 18, the item will default to playing an unidentified recording of a music box. While the melody has yet to be identified, it has been described by multiple researchers as recognizable.
Testing for Object 18 occurred over the course of two months and concluded early due to lack of practically. Testing was supposed to resume 6/28/2016 but was delayed multiple times due to it being considered a “low priority” after the initial two-month-long testing period. Eventually, the project would be put to rest as Object 18 fell once-again under Agent Bell’s possession.
